Paladin is a side scrolling Action RPG where players take the role of a paladin who goes through 100 stages to find 3 magical swords and rescue a princess from a villain called “God”. In between some of the levels, players can buy weapons, armor and medicine in shops, as well as rest in hospitals. Players can also use magic to inflict more damage on their enemies.
Visually , the game looks a lot like the computer classic Lode Runner, with each stage constructed of bricks and filled with ladders, and enemies positioned around. It uses a simple bump system for melee combat, though you have magic too. You technically don’t have to kill all of the enemies to proceed but doing so will give you experience and cash.
The game was developed by Ken Akamatsu while still at high school, he would later become a world famous manga author, thanks to his series Love Hina and Negima!
