Today a marriage is to be celebrated: the Griffin Empire celebrates Emperor Nicolai and the tomboy-like Isabel who are soon to be united. But… something goes wrong and Demons emerge from the darkness, interrupting this joyous celebration! So, now Nicolai has to lead his army to war; while Isabel is carried away and treated like a poor defenseless girl.

She cannot sit still for long, so she breaks free from her escorts at the first opportunity and tries to seek some help for her Nicolai. While her escort, Godric, leaves to seek the powerful mages of the Shining Cities; Beatrice tries to contact the Elven armies of Irollan. Will she succeed in bringing help to her soon to be husband, Nicolai? Will Godric convince the mages to help the Griffin Empire?

This is the first Heroes of Might & Magic to feature 3D graphics and Multiplayer options. The turn-based system for tactical battles has been entirely re-written to be more scalable. It also features an entirely new plot, along with new spells, new units and new creatures skills.

In the first campaign of three new ones in this expansion pack for Heroes of Might and Magic V, you control Freyda as she struggles with a civil war in the Griffin Empire. After that, you move to the icy mountains in the north, which the dwarves call their home.

They are the new playable race in Hammers of Fate and bring along a new kind of city called Fortress. Since dwarves do not know anything about mana and all that fancy stuff all the other races use to cast spells, there is also a new kind of magic called Rune Magic. It uses resources instead of mana to cast powerful spells upon enemies. Dwarves also have their own set of units, like the vicious bear riders and rune priests.

The expansion adds new artifacts, new neutral monsters like mummies and manticores, new map objects and several new skirmish and multiplayer maps. It also reintroduces the Caravan feature, known from Heroes of Might and Magic IV, which allows you to transport units over the map without a hero in the group. In multiplayer matches, the simultaneous turn-based mode makes a return. It allows all players on a map to move their units without waiting for the other players during a turn.

Tribes of the East is the second, stand-alone expansion pack for Heroes of Might and Magic V once again set in Ashan World but now bringing the Stronghold faction with orcs to the table and an additional upgrade to all dwellings. The first mission introduces the orcs, followed by 3 full campaigns for the Necropolis, Academy and Stronghold faction, with 5 missions each and all linking a single storyline.

There are also improvements to the gameplay itself, bugfixes, and a revision of the combat interface and a refined map editor. Other changes include new and easier access to spells, and settings for in-game and combat modes, providing additional information about the minions.

The new Stronghold faction offers 7 units (Centaur, Cyclops, Goblin, Shaman, Slayer, Warrior and Wyvern), the racial skill Blood Rage and the Barbarian as a hero.
