Disciples II: Dark Prophecy

This is the second part in the Disciples Series from Strategy First. It continues the plot of Disciples – Sacred Lands, ten years after the defeat of the undead hordes.

Although the game may look very similar to the more known Heroes of Might and Magic series due to its turn based game style and its 2D Graphics, Disciples 2 offers some very fine and unique features to make it a game worth looking at.

The game plays at a fixed resolution of 800×600, just like HOMM3. You’ll either have the chance to play one of the single scenarios, play the campaign or join a multiplayer-game. A scenario editor is also included in the game package in order to create missions on your own.

The core part of the game is the very well written campaign. Here, the story of Disciples II is told. You’ll have to play each faction of the game: The Human Empire, The Mountain Clans, The Undead Hordes and Legion of the Damned. Just like in Blizzard’s Starcraft, the story is linked together in the four parts of the campaign – you don’t know what happens in the end unless you’ve played all races.

The game not only focuses on the development of your heroes but also on your other characters. You don’t send forth huge armies like in other games of the genre, you control parties similar to typical role-playing games. Each member of your party has special abilities you’ll have to use with care in order to remain successful in the game.
