Stone Mist

Stone Mist is a classic early Ultima style RPG, complete with turn-based battles and a fairly in-depth character generation system (that must be run separately before running the game). The story is typical fantasy RPG fare, and there are some quirks to the engine, but overall it’s a competently presented game with decent VGA graphics. There is an extensive documentation file (SMVOL1.DOC) that you will likely need to reference since the in-game help is minimal. I didn’t make it too far into this game but there seems to be a decently large world to explore, and at least you can (usually?) run from battles if you don’t want to fight monsters constantly. (Note: The DOSBox version playable online defaults to a sample character I made; download and run the game on your own computer to create your own.)
